The house for rent is an old stonework house showing mostly original condition. Situated in a small village by name Petrella Massana (click here), which is one of the oldest convents in Italy, foundated around year 950. The house for rent is today one of the oldest in the city dating back to year 1250. This old rustic convent with great authenticity is a town house of the so called Casa Colonica type and situated in the Appennine mountains in the East of Tuscany at the border of the regions Marche and Emilia Romagna and Umbria. In the middle of a genuine and unspoiled nature in the truffle area and home for the fantastic white cattle "Chianina" which are here seen all around in the hills. The Town Petrella Massana lies on a pass in alttitude 954 mtrs. above sea-level in the middle of the "green heart"of Tuscany at the important pilgrim routes "Strada Romea". In order to get from the harbours in the arrival cities on the Adriatic Sea, -Ravenna, Rimini, and Pesaro - and beyond the Appennine mountains the pilgrims used a newly revived system of well distributed tracks which guided them across the mountains and down on the opposite side for finding the Tiber river (il Tevere) which would easily lead them to their destination, Rome. Today pilgrimage is again arranged. An excellent, etnic Italian restaurant is situated only 500 yards from Petrella Massana (More information here). The house is situated close to a very big National Park where the Tuscan part "Parco Naturale del Sasso di Simone" covers 1575 ha (1 hectare = 10.000 m 2). Petrella is situated among soft hills between the mountains which for more than 800 years has given the village a natural defense against devastating earthquakes.
The House of 184 sq.mtr. is in three floors with two floors used. The ground floor with hall and modernized and tiled bathroom with cold and hot water, toilet, bidet, tub, bathshower. Big dining room with fantastic view to the mountains. Open fireplace (original), wood-burning stove, fridge/freezer and gas cooker with electrical oven. Dining table for 6-9 persons. From the dining room entrance to a kitchen room with same exceptional view to the mountains. From the hall a very old staircase is leading to the first floor hosting a sitting room with open fireplace (original) and three-seat sofa-bed ( in the night : mattress 140 x 200 cm. for 2 persons) Same lovely view to the mountains as downstairs. A bedroom with two beds with spring mattresses. Extra springmattress under one of the beds. View to the mountains. Further a master bedroom with double bed frame with spring mattresses. Included in this room is a childs bed. Window to the main street. Large terrace with panorama view at the rear of the house. All electrical installations in the house, including RCD and socket outlets are of danish origin (different from the Italian system). All electrical appliances in the house fits this danish system. If you carry with you some of your own appliances please bring with you an adapter-set. Free access to internet. This rental house is well suited as a basis for the sights and adventures this part of Tuscany can provide. Perfect for a "local living" experience, hiking, pilgrimage etc. !
The Wildlife Resort "Parco Naturale del Sasso di Simone" has a very alternate nature with boar, porcupine, wolf and Glis glis(or edible dormouse which was farmed and eaten by the Romans) in addition to a rich flora with seven wild species of orchids. The NaturePark has 2 big mountains Sasso di Simone and Simoncello both more than 1200 mtrs above sea-level. The top of Sasso di Simone is an ideal hiking target for the whole family and a very nice nature experience. Special paths for riding and Mountain biking.
Sestino, with a population of 1500 inhabitants is the nearest town, situated 7 km.(approx. 4 miles) downhill at an altitude of 500 mtrs. It is a very charming village with all facilities needed. Bank, Post-office, Police, GP, Pharmacy, Bars, Restaurants, Super markets, Butcher, Bakery, Mechanics, Hairdresser etc. Every Thursday a market is held offering clothing, shoes, fruit, vegetables, cheese and frish fish. From Sestino you can catch a bus to e.g. Pesaro. In addition a schoolbus is running in the morning from Petrella to Sestino and return at noon. During school holidays a normal busconnection to the market in Sestino is available. The road to Sestino is popular with cyclists due to hills with 15 and 18 % climbs.
Rental of the apartment "the old Convent" is currently on a weekly basis from Saturday 2 p.m. to the following Saturday 10 a.m. The rent per week is € 480. Pre-payment required: 25 % of total amount at ordering. Remaining amount to be received within 2 weeks before start of the rental period. Bed linen, hand towels and tea-towels to be provided by you. Consumption of water and electricity are included in the rent. Cleaning after rental period ends is included.
